Outstanding Student of the Year
Every year, the College of Liberal Arts asks each department to select its outstanding student(s) for that year- students who possess the passion and creativity for new discoveries and scholarship, students who demonstrate independence of thought and action in the pursuit of knowledge, and students who exemplify excellence.
The UAF Linguistics program has chosen the following as students who embody these qualities and so much more. Thank you for all your hard work and contributions to your department. You make a difference at UAF.

"I think people should study the liberal arts because our society is--as everyone knows--becoming increasingly politically divided. Science, math, those are all great. They're so useful. But the liberal arts are where you help our society to be a better society--socially, psychologically, and interpersonally. We really support the interpersonal development of society in all of the fields of liberal arts."
“An experience at UAF that stands out to me is these two classes that I took. I took LING 315, and that is English for Second Language Teaching. That is combined with the English as a Second Language class — so, their grammar class. You had two kinds of students in the same room. You had the linguistic students, who were learning their perspective and how to teach English grammar, and then the ESL students, who were learning English grammar. That was just so cool to me, to just have shift that perspective and be like, ‘This is what they're experiencing, and this is the other side, this is what the teachers are doing.’â€
